For beginner students, I start with instrumental mechanics and very approachable ear training. We will listen to various styles of music in order to see the natural inclination and joy that the student possesses. From there, we will take our time developing good habits while learning music that the student finds fun and satisfying. I seek to instill musical goals and aspirations in new students by sharing and demonstrating music that they really enjoy. Read More

For younger beginners, I like to start with a method book such as Essential Elements to build the foundations of music and the instruments. After students have worked through this, we begin working on solo repertoire to get students excited to perform songs at their first recital! This is also a great time to begin learning about improvisation and creative playing, something that we all already have within us. Students learn the basics of improv through fun games, songs, and duets to build their confidence and hone their voice. Read More

Recently, I have performed with the Ocean City Pops Orchestra and I served as section leader for the Classical Music Festival in Eisenstadt, Austria where we performed in the Haydnsaal and St Stephens Kirchedom in Vienna and these were huge opportunities! My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 6 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students since then. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy cello playing and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More
