I began teaching in 2009, with private students. The following year, I began working with non-profit organization, for two years, that brought music to at-risk and underprivileged children. After working with them, I began working with the Baton Rouge Arts Council, bringing music and music appreciation to elementary school class rooms for children and schools that did not have a music teacher, on staff. I started teaching privately in 2004, and have been doing so in either my own studio or in the studios of others ever since.. In 2013, I started contracting with the Anaheim City School District to teach string classes in their after-school music program. Since moving to Texas, I have started orchestra programs at two different schools in Dallas county, while continuing to build my own studio. While I do teach using standard, classical repertoire more often than not, my goal as a teacher is to help my students develop a deep love and passion for music; hence, I often find it incredibly helpful to branch out into other genres! For bass guitar I use the Mel Bay Bass Guitar Method which takes a student from creating rocking bass lines to building kicking bass licks from chord changes.Double Bass students will have classical training, techniques to build a solid, warm tone, use of the bow, and orchestral repertoire, including solo pieces. I was brought up classically trained on the Suzuki books but I am completely flexible. If you have or have heard of a set of books you like we can use that too. If you don't know how to read music we can focus part of the lesson on music theory and the rest on learning from recordings and playing by ear.
