I am a third-year undergrad at NYU, studying Music Education with a concentration in instrumental performanceand I love it! For beginners, I always reincorporate very crucial skills to possess with constant repetition (i.e.: intonation, posture, bow technique, finger positioning). On top of this, I build on rhythm. Many times, parts of my lessons include simply clapping, so that students get a grasp for rhythm and constantly improve upon it. In terms of classical training, for me, knowing the "feeling" of the piece is key. By building upon this feeling, I introduce different styles and different techniques that the student can learn. For beginning students who are children, for the first lesson i usually ask them to play whatever they have in hand then base on the standard to assign basic practice from the Suzuki cello books. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. MY name is Oded and I am an Israeli Cellist currently living in NYC. I started playing the cello when I was 4 after watching a video of Yo-Yo Ma perform Elgar Cello Concerto, which made me fall in-love with the sound of the cello. I began my studies in Suzuki method and soon moved to study at a music conservatory in my own town Kfar-Saba, Israel. I then graduated from both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Cello Performance and have been performing around the world as a chamber musician and a soloist ever since, playing in major recital halls such as Carnegie Hall, Avery Fischer Hall, and Tel-Aviv Museum. I use String Builder, Essential Elements, etudes, technical studies for each instrument and Suzuki Methods for strings and essential elements for clarinet. I emphasize good posture, holding the instrument and bow properly and correct finger placement. Also learning to play scales and music to prepare for auditions and a recital. I also teach students music theory and sight reading and assist with orchestral music.
