I am a college student who is very passionate to share my knowledge in music. Playing cello since the age of 4, I have competed in all levels of NYSSMA including All-State. I have been the principle cellist of my high school chamber orchestra, nominated for top ten in the country, for a few years. My main foundations for my teaching are rooted in goal setting, collaboration, and engaging music learning. At the beginning of every semester, I like to evaluate the goals from the previous semester, talk about what progress has been made, and what the future goals are. I personally feel that many times students quit because they do not enjoy practicing at home week after week, so for me, collaboration either with students from school, other students in the studio, or in local music schools or orchestras is a must. I've been studying and teaching cello since the 20th century. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to fluently read music and as time goes on you'll be able to perform classical literature or compose your own music. I have a historical basis behind my musical decisions so we will study old traditions and new ones from various sources. My teaching began in senior year of my high school. I taught at Memorial High School Orchestra, where I lead cello sectionals, taught one-on-one lessons, and coached chamber ensembles. In addition, I received training in introductory conducting. I believe that with my lessons, I have a balance between having fun and actually improving. For beginners, I usually start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements books and Suzuki books 1-3 and supplement them with technical exercises. Once the student is comfortable with the fundamentals, I introduce appropriate cello solos and etude books. For children, I like to assign a well-rounded repertoire from various time periods and styles. Students of all ages can request to learn music that they find exciting. With adult students, I prefer to let the student direct repertoire choices according to their particular musical passions. Read More
