I was assistant principal cellist of the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra for 15 years from 1987 to 2002. I was an Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Mississippi in Oxford from 1988 and 1998. After 1998, I teach cello at the prestigious Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. I was also the Music Director and Conductor of the Mississippi Youth Symphony Orchestra for 9 years. I use All for Strings, Suzuki, Klengel (scales) at the beginning level. I proceed to Concerto repertoire, Popper, Dotzauer etc. The usual classical repertoire. I will also transcribe popular pieces or pieces that the student enjoys to really increase motivation. I also test weekly to inform students of where their practice ability is at and what they need to improve on. I started teaching piano to both children and adults in high school. One of them was 5 years old, the other was 6, and another was 13 years old. I've also taught a 19-year-old for a short period of time. For the two kids who were 5 and 6, they were total beginners at piano and did not know anything about piano so my main focus was to introduce them to this instrument and teach them the basics of music theories, scores, and postures.
