My teaching style is fun and laid back. I want students to see their potential by playing the music that they love. If a student wants to learn Taylor Swift, then we will learn the things to help that student achieve those goals, and they will be able to do this in a relaxed setting with a teacher that understands the difficulties of playing music for the first time. I'm a musician who has learned many styles of music himself, and I understand that there are many avenues for a musician to become a master at their craft. Read More

I currently teach music part-time at two Montessori elementary schools in the Southeast Valley which include after-school music classes and private lessons. I am the Worship Pastor at RPFChurch in Tempe, AZ where I play guitar and direct the worship team. I love to share my passion for music with every student and encourage them to enjoy playing their chosen instrument. I am also involved in reforming music education by writing methods and curriculum which make music fun, accessible and relevant to all ages. Read More

For all students, I teach them exercises to strenghten their fundamentals and skills in the given instrument, and each lesson we practice the exercises to focus on improving their sound production, pitch finding, placement, and more. We also learn songs that both the student and I choose and prepare for performance (when necessary). Here are the books I work from for each instrument, but please note that I don't necessarily use these for every student, only when appropriate: GUITAR: Mel Bay's Modern Guitar Method (books 1 through 3) VOICE: Master Vocal Exercises by Horatio Connell, and Sightsinging (Hal Leonard) BASS GUITAR: Bass Method, (Hal Leonard, books 1 through 3) TRUMPET: Essential Elements 2000, (Hal Leonard, books 1 through 3) Read More

Every student learns a different way and I always take the first lesson to evaluate what the student is passionate about. Some students want to get straight to playing songs and some want to learn sheet music first. I am comfortable with starting anyway they need. If the student starts to get bored after a few lessons I try and bring in new toys related to the instrument such as a new kind of cymbal or a slide guitar to try and spark some inspiration again! Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.. Read More

I took guitar lessons, bass lessons, as well as piano lessons when I was a kid. I also interned at music studios and sat in on live audio gigs to learn that aspect as well. I have been playing for artists/bands live and in the studio (primarily on bass guitar) for almost 15 years now. From country, gospel, blues, to classic rock. Most of my experience teaching is with small children. Read More

I learned from my own private study that enforcing the basics sets up the foundation for a successful musician that always gets called for the gig. This includes proper preparation, setting tangible goals and then developing a plan to ensure optimal development as a musician. I want all my students to know not only how to be an amazing musician, but an amazing professional that gets the first call for a performance. Read More
