For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. My methods include playing by ear, learning the foundation and solfeggi. Read More

My focus is on Technique, Warm ups, and Injury Prevention on each instrument. I like to give precise instructions on how to build up discipline and practice regimens. The key to mastering any instrument is consistency. I believe it's important to get to know each students interest and goals in order to create a customized plan. I try to make each lesson, fun and inspirational. Each person learns differently. This is known as "modality" Auditory By ear, or tonal instruction Kinesthetic By feel, learns from physically being shown, a hands-on learner Visual By sight, by fret board position memory and shape. It is of paramount importance to me that I impart my experiential and theoretical knowledge of all things music unto the student in a personally tailored fashion which emphasizes the knowledge necessary for each individual student to identify and achieve their musical goals. I have the ability to identify the students interests and base my curriculum around their needs and desires as a musical being. I believe that knowledge not applied or bestowed unto another is wasted and that the most important thing about bettering yourself in any regard is to be able to pass that knowledge on to others so that they may add to the whole of the collective of, in this case, musical expression. I began teaching guitar in 2002 while still attending the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. That's when I found my true calling in life and I have now taught hundreds of students. Several of my former students have even gone on to obtain part-time and full-time music careers. I've also helped several of my students with college auditions so that they too can become musicians, like me. Music is a way of life for me and I can't think of anything more rewarding. Read More

Music in the school system is taught backwards. If you're a beginner, you were put in a beginning class. this makes it very difficult for students to advance quickly because they aren't playing music with people who are more advanced than them. I make sure the students have the ability to play the instrument before they learn a ton of theory, because knowing how the wrritten form of music work without being able to play them is recipe for frustration. No matter what age, or skill level, I always bear in mind, that no two individuals, are the same. Taking that into account, there is always an evaluation performed to gauge competency of the instrument and knowledge of music theory if you're not a beginner. If the student is a beginner, I always start with the basics, music theory, parts of the guitar, maintenance of the instrument. As someone who not only plays guitar, but also buys, sells, fixes, and builds guitars from scratch, I provide a full course of how to play, to how to build one from a kit or from scratch if desired.
