My approach is simple - you tell me what your goals are and I help you achieve them. I can help with proficiency, timing, improvisation, technique, composition and am happy to go slowly or quickly. Some students do best with bi-weekly lessons. Others are better suited to weekly instruction. All students are taught how to break music down into simple terms which helps them approach music the right way. Lastly, the more you put into music the more you will get out of it like anything in life. Read More

I’m appreciative that they take the time to reach out to me instead of coming to the next lesson unprepared. I do encourage the importance of learning standard music notation because I believe that it helps understand the big picture of music. I believe that not knowing how to read standard music notation is akin to speaking a language but not being able to read or write it. I do respect that everyone has a different reason to want to play and I do not force people to learn what they do not want to. Read More

I have been teaching private lessons since 2006, and have been fortunate to gain experience with all age groups and skill levels. Coming from a unique combination of genres, I am able to bring the complete spectrum of music into my playing and teaching. My experience with improvisation and learning by ear enables me to take a more intuitive and sensitive approach to classical notated music, and my experience with classical music gives me a complete understanding of the theory and harmony that crosses over into non-classical genres. My love for teaching began as a peer tutor in college. I tutored students in piano, guitar, bass ear training, and music theory. I began to love teaching when I noticed the change and progress it creates within people. While in college, I taught at a musical theatre camp as a music teacher. I taught music theory, ear training, and vocal music. Right after I graduated college I was accepted into the music education program at Teachers College Columbia University where I received my masters degree in music education along with certification in New York state to teach Pre-K through 12.
