I began my musical journey at age 2 with my first gig, sitting in on percussion while on a family vacation, at Hilton Head Island. SC. At age 8, I began formal studies on the violin and viola with the school orchestra, winning several state and regional awards. It wasn't until age 17 that I discovered the bass guitar and immediately starting playing in bands with my friends. In college, I continued my absorption of musical knowledge with Music Theory, Music History, and Bass Performance from the University of Colorado, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Master's Degree from the Berklee College of Music. I have a strong passion towards music that developed early as a child. Therefore, I make it a point to set an agenda in each lesson that starts and ends with something fun, and is also predictable so that students know intuitively how to go about their practicing. During each lesson, the student and I set realistic goals for practicing and, despite the popular saying that the more time you spend practicing, the more effective your practice is, I have learned from many students that each student practices and learns from practicing in their own way. It is important to me that each student learns at their own pace when I teach. I dont want to force things upon students that they arent ready for, or dont want to do. Because of this, most of my curriculum is based around music of the students choosing, so they keep engaged and wanting to keep learning. Through this, I will teach the theory aspect of the music they are learning to help give a better understanding of why things work the way that they do, and the why the way they sound that way.
