Depending on experience level I like to get people making music as soon as possible. I know that trudging through the basics can be tiring. Of course some basics are neccesary but I like to make the basics sound as musical as possible. We will cover the fundamentals but we'll do so in such a way that it won't feel like so much work. Because of this, most of my curriculum is based around music of the students choosing, so they keep engaged and wanting to keep learning. For most beginner students, I introduce open chords and basic single note playing, eventually leading to chord progressions and basic classic rock riffs.
