For teens and adult beginners, I use the James Bastien "Older Beginner Series or John Thompson series to get them started. My methods are not standard, I believe in teaching technical sides of an instrument and the creative sides. For younger students I will teach them the basics of chords and progressions, eventually leading to write their first songs.
