Often this means scales, chords, arpeggios, music literacy, performance practice and listening skills. At the age of 17, I flew to Hollywood, CA to attend Musicians Institute where I studied Bass Guitar Performance. Learning from and playing with some of the best musicians in the business was amazing. I left school to hit the road with my first professional band. I spent the next 20+ years writing, recording and touring all over the country. I was lucky enough to be in a few bands that landed indie recording contracts, which allowed me to tour nationally doing original music, with songs I had written being played on radio and on TV shows across the country. For beginning students, I always start with technique and posture, as improper technique can be catastrophic to your playing down the line. From there we'll cover the basics, such as chord shapes, strumming patterns, and scales. On top of that, each student will receive a "riff of the week", a guitar riff from a song that is in line with their particular music tastes. This class focusses on developing three aspects of a musician The Body The Mind The Soul With Body we will focus on developing the finger strength, stamina, and muscle memory necessary for playing guitar. Students will be given exercises and chords to practice that will train their hand for performance. For the Mind we will focus on learning the basics of music theory.
