I am a driven and holistic instructor that finds meaning, passion, and understanding from sharing music with others. I graduated from Northern Illinois University, in 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Trombone Performance. During my time at NIU, I studied with Jeremy Moeller, principal trombone of the Lyric Opera of Chicago. I began teaching people how to play instruments when I was in high school, by teaching new students to the band how to play percussion. I then continued teaching once in college by volunteering at local high schools helping new students to the band programs learn brass and percussion. From there I worked with the Rich South high school band director and the Jack Hille middle school band directors. Depending on the level of the student, there is a sequence over time of method and etude books that I use in my lessons. I also incorporate solo repertoire and encourage my students to take part in activities such as the IMEA Solo and Ensemble Competitions. Regardless of the students ability, teaching fundamentals of the instrument are my priority. I encourage students to practice daily, so that our lessons together can be as fun and productive as possible. Read More

Whether this is from scratch or from a method book I try to see what each student is successful in and struggling with to guide my teaching. I make sure that the student has a grip on the material without ever making them feel like the material is a little too hard for them to understand. When they are laughing, they are learning and what better way to learn than to have fun with it? I incorporate dancing, poetry and all other art forms to teach and the students gravitate to that and use what they learn in our lesson to write their own music and go off to have fun doing so.
