Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. He has also studied voice with Jane Sharp and piano with Ellen Wasserman. Jake has been teaching music since 2001. He was Music Program Director at Mission Hills Middle School, in Union City, for 3 years. He was also the guitar and percussion teacher at St. Paul’s Episcopal School in Oakland. Jake has also been a music instructor with COVA, Art and Soul Music Studios, Hayward Music Center and ALMA. I began teaching private piano lessons in the fall of 2015. I have taught both adults and children, and have found the experience very rewarding, especially with adult learners. I got my own start in music very late, and was actively discouraged in my youth from pursuing it--so one of my main goals as an educator is to motivate students and encourage them that they can still be performers. For most beginners, I use the Bastian series to get students started. this series of instructional books combines basic theory with practical examples that help to reinforce the concepts introduced each week. While working on fundamentals, we introduce performance selections that are fun and engaging. For adult learners, I typically chart a path of instruction based upon their goals and interests. Every student is different, and learns at their own pace. With that being said, I find it important to devise lesson plans that are personal and cater to students individually. I try to always stay positive with young students but at the same time, push them to give their best effort on their instrument.
