I have played many diverse styles over the years. In addition to being well known in the world of classical saxophone, where I have worked with and studied with several world famous players, I have always enjoyed playing in jazz ensembles and playing clarinet in both chamber music and symphony orchestra settings. For elementary students and some middle schoolers, I usually either work out of Standard of Excellence or Essential Elements book 1 to begin their studies or continue where they left off. For high schoolers and more advanced middle schoolers, I like to have them play solo flute pieces that fit with their ability level. I have developed my own system and materials for introducing the fingerings and reading music in a methodical way. I write my own simple exercises and songs. I use the Wagner book and a duet book, and appropriate solos depending on the interests of the student. I customize the lessons and go where the student's needs and interests are. Popular songs can be good as solos, and some studnets really enjoy playing Handel, Telemann, and Bach. Read More
