I earned my Bachelor's and Masters in Music from New Mexico State University in 1995 and 1997, respectively. I then earned my Doctorate in Music in Voice Performance from the University of Memphis in 2003. I am a conductor, tubist, and baritone; a musician with tenacity and passion and has been making music for over 17 years. As an avid performer, vocal coach, and conductor I have enjoyed a musical career on multiple continents. Encouraging my students to keep a consistent practice schedule is a main factor to success that I emphasize to my students, but more importantly, I also help them identify styles of music that they love. This can mean helping students find pieces of music that inspire them to keep up practice or using improvisation to spark an interest in jazz and composing their own music. I have found that helping students find their musical interests early on facilitates retention, regular practice, and most importantly, enthusiasm for music. Read More

In voice lessons, skills must be broken down into component parts so that students achieve success.I use vocal exercises as etudes to teach specific content such as accessing ones entire vocal range. My students are given simultaneous praise and feedback to help acheive desired skills. I have an associate degree in the arts, with emphasis in music. All throughout high school I studied, piano, voice and violin. I began private teaching on the violin when I was 16 years old and it was then, that I realized what a privilege it was to teach and watch my young summer students excel and then play in the youth orchestra at the end of the summer.
