I began my high school career as a baritone, but my voice quickly changed to Tenor and I began singing higher repertoire. I performed with Scotty Dennis and the Soultones, Band of Brothers, have released two pop singles, and continue as a student at Wichita State University where I am in their Opera program. I've been slowly teaching private lessons while I've been in the final years of college. With the KU curriculum, I have had to learn how to work with children from Pre-K to 12th grade, which means any age is something I've been prepared for. Also, I got to sing with the Intergenerational choir at KU, which would happen at the local community center with senior-aged people. My teaching experience dates back to my time at Washburn University, where I have taught several students. Now I teach at Missouri State University as a part of my assistantship. I encourage regular practice and motivation for students to see results. I have found that allowing students to express how they feel about the songs they sing really helps them become better performers. My methods vary greatly dependent upon the needs of the student. For younger students, I start with early fundamentals (music in general, breathing, and confidence) through easy songs that are recognizable and fun to learn. As a student ages, the voice matures, so I assess a student's vocal qualities and give them appropriate rep through their voice changing. For teens and adults, I focus on finding appropriate pieces that are in line with a student's preferred genre. Read More
