I am a recent graduate from Bethune-Cookman University where I studied with Russian-born pianist Rose Grace. I have a BA from St. Mary's College and have taught college level courses at Winston-Salem State University, Salem College and NC School of the Arts Community Program. Currently I play solo, in a duo and have four bands in different genres, Jazz, Blues Bluegrass and Praise. My method makes understanding the breathing, support and execution of the voice the first priority.After this is achieved, exercises are assigned to further develop range, control, strength and vocal agility. The bottom line is that although it takes years to develop a strong, skillful and sensitive singer, it should not take years for a singer with good tutelage and a willingness to work hard, to sing competently. Ive been teaching music lessons in piano, guitar, voice, and ukulele for 9 years. Though I was a vocal performance major in college, I am still proficient at guitar, piano, and ukulele. I love working with students who play multiple instruments or are interested in accompanying themselves while singing. Wherever you are in the pursuit of voice, it's necessary to develop reproducible, reliable technique. Singing is breath, vowels and consonants, and feeling, and how the three of them interact is crucial to having a sustainable, easy, and fun instrument. This is where the work is.
