My primary goal as a teacher is to develop a love of music within the students. I'm more interested in developing Artists than I am developing "Performers". Perfection is not something that I aspire to as an Artist. Sometimes perfection, and striving for impeccable technique can become on of the biggest hinderances for a Musician to truly embody the stage, and show their passion. I have a long history of voice, theory of music and piano teaching from the beginning of my singing career. Jake has been playing guitar and percussion for over 20 years. He teaches all levels of guitar and congas, as well as beginning piano, voice and drum set. He went to Berkeley High School where he played guitar in the BHS Jazz Ensemble. He then attended the New School in New York City, majoring in jazz guitar studies. He has studied jazz guitar with Steve Erquiaga, Dave Creamer and Jack Wilkins, and congas with Josh Jones, Sandy Perez and other Cuban percussionists. Read More

I am very encouraging and patient as a teacher, i understand how learning is when your trying to get over the hurdles. My compassion allows me to put myself in the students shoes, which makes me a better teacher. I like to encourage the student to listen to artists and incorporate musical philosophy to inspire the student to play and achieve and experiment. As stated above, I have been teaching and coaching private voice for over 10 years.   I have been in demand as Vocal and Music Director for numerous community musical theatre productions.   I have enjoyed working with students age 8 to 78. I am well-versed in classical, musical theatre and popular repertoire.   The most important thing to note is that I believe there is ONE healthy and safe way to sing.  We just learn to color our sound to meet stylistic needs.
