I pay close attention to what exercises students seem to want to spend the most time on and the ones they get frustrated with. When I first subbed in as a teacher, I knew teaching music was for me. I am a multi-instrumentalist,performer,songwriter,producer,as well as being an instructor of music. I started playing music when I was in grade school and have continued as I am pursuing my degree in Music Education/Jazz Performance at William Paterson University. My practice is an evidenced-based one. I chose exercises that are specifically tailored to a certain vocal idea or skill that we are working on. From there, we modify the exercise to meet the needs of the student's unique body and other student specific needs (i.e. previous habits, personality type, etc.). My teaching experience dates back from high school days teaching church, college, university choirs, and eventually soloists or ensemble group. I have had groups who become champions in multiple competitions, I have had students who became queens of jazz vocal competitions, I have students who eventually became professional musicians and vocal artists, and I coach too while they are in a recording studio especially with first timers. I began teaching in high school due to me being the student director of the choir and my choir director knowing my background vocally, encouraged me to help some of the incoming students and choir hopefuls. By the end of my junior year of high school, I was giving private lessons 5 times a week and directed some pieces during competitions.
