At Northwestern, it was my responsibility, on top of earning my degree, to teach lessons to non-music major students. These student came from all backgrounds and experience levels, and their fields of study included math, computer science, drama, and more. Along with my other students, who I've taught privately for years, they all made improvements in performance practice, musicianship, and, of course, their voices. The principles of singing are universal for every voice, and their so simple that adjustments are easy to make based on voice type, experience level, or any other factor. Read More

For beginning singers, I truly work on getting the support system working as early as possible. Because of the delicacy of the youngest voices, I believe this is the most fundamental aspect of singing. Range can be developed as the vocal mechanism develops, but this will all be made easier with a solid support structure. For intermediate singers, I work on freeing the voice and allowing the natural vibrato (or 'spin') to come through. Read More

I am a passionate musician and educator.  I have sung around the world, have had one of the best educations imaginable and love to pass along my experience to my students.  I have worked with classically trained singers and musical theater singers alike.  Some have gone on to sing at opera houses and some sing for enjoyment.   I enjoy teaching beginner and intermediate saxophone students, and beginner piano students as well. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching at a music summer camp 3 years ago. Since then, I have been teaching private students. I encourage regular practice sessions. This is one of the key points I like to emphasize for beginners especially, as it tends to help the student progress, gain a passion for the instrument, and build discipline. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy music, motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

I typically use a combination of methods in the private lesson setting-method books, etude books, books for technique, solo repertoire, and pop/rock/jazz music and or charts for contemporary study. For beginners, I like Essential Elements 2000, Faber Method, Suzuki solo books, and easy pop music books. For more advanced students, I will incorporate advanced methods such as etude books/orchestral excerpts along with repertoire geared more towards polishing for recital or performance. Read More

My style is open minded. I first try to know the students' goals and prepare a course of action accordingly. Then I try to know how much the students already knows and how much talent they have. That allows me to determine how fast I may go with them or how much I must drill and develop a particular skill before going on. Sometimes if I assess the student is jammed or stressed I deem it necessary to digress a bit into music history , philosophy and other fields related to music that work as a refreshing background and point of rebound to the skill part of the lesson while increase the scholarly knowledge of the student. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
