I have been directing the childrens choir at my church since 2009, here I develop lessons for students 5-10, each week to get them performance ready for performances once every 2 months. I began teaching private lessons four years ago in various genres such as jazz, pop, musical theater, and classical - with a bit of music theory for those who have expressed interest. Students of mine have participated in recitals and have written their own compositions. My method is to find common ground with the student so that they can relax. Relaxation, emotional and physical, is very important for singing. After that, I teach breath support, vowels, style and languages. I speak 5 Western languages and some Mandarin Chinese. I mainly use my own performing experience as a method to teach. I developed my own style throughout the years of performing...what works and what doesn't. But its all about experimenting, and getting out of the box. As a jazz singer, it's all about this. But I have studied classical and opera in college, so I have the knowlege of proper singing techniques, breathing techniques, etc. So with the combination of vocal experiences, there is a time and place for each type of singing, and I will pass that along to my students.
