In the first lesson, I listen very carefully to what the student wants to achieve and how they feel about the way they sing. Then, I begin my strategy of how to devise a skills building foundation based on their needs. After a few exercises, I can understand how quickly they can adapt and try new techniques. The focus of my studio is as follows: breath support vocal health and safety tonation style For beginning students who are children, I start with basic songs that can build upon the fundamentals listed above. I begin to introduce solo repertore when appropriate but I do not rush this process. I believe it is important for voice and piano students to have a basic understanding of music theory, as well as technique. I pull material from a variety of sources. For piano, I typically use Bastien and/ or Hal Leonard.
