My teaching style is best referred to as a facilitator. Essentially, I promote self-learning, helping students develop critical thinking skills and retain knowledge that leads to self-actualization. I prefer to guide students by letting them think for themselves, pointing out when mistakes are made but also encouraging them to learn and grow from them. I teach students about breath support and resonation and how they work together. Then help the student customize their own warm up method. while working on scales and solfeggi (do re mi). And then work on vocal projection and range, before moving onto vocal articulation and annunciation. There are many aspects of singing that work together it is important to understand how these factors function. its can be helpful to understand what to listen and look for in your performance or what others may see that may not be obvious to you. I am both goal-oriented and open-ended with my students. At the beginning of lessons, I always check in with them to see how their progress was for the week and any questions or concerns that arose in their practice. I find this puts the ownership on them to reflect on their week of music making (and help them to remember that practice happens more than just in the lesson!). So, I have had teaching experience with students from 12 to 55 years old. I also had many private vocal students, who are successfully continuing to pursue their musical careers/education. After my graduation I moved to London and worked as a music teacher with K-5 grade students. I gained a lot of knowledge about little kids and and the best ways of teaching them. During my 27-year tenure as Assistant Chair of the Voice Department at Berklee College of Music in Boston, I instituted courses for teaching singers all styles of jazz and contemporary music.
