I started playing violin when I was 7. I've been with Musika since 2011 (while I was in college). I have experience teaching Suzuki method (violin) from young age kids to old students. I also have been teaching Suzuki Method (K-12) strings at a local arts school and also at a Korean community center. I am currently teaching music subject at school as well. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern pop music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the violin and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

I have nearly a decade of private teaching experience as well as teaching in group and in school orchestra settings. While in Austin, Joseph ran a successful teaching studio of over 30 violin and viola students that regularly placed in TMEA All-Region Orchestras, UIL State Solo Ensemble Contest, and were members of the Austin Youth Orchestra. I take the great things about the Suzuki Method and use them (fun, creativity, by-ear learning, group jams). Then I take the things I don't like about the method and disregard them (pre-established repetoire, no composition or improv). I teach kids how to concentrate, how to teach themselves, how to ignore distractions, and the philosophy for joyful performance without nervousness. The result has been that I have trained hundreds of children to have fun playing music well, plus four of my child students have become national acts. Read More
