Whether it be stage performance, studio recording or personal satisfaction, I will use a variety of techniques to help them reach their individual goals. In violin and viola, I teach the Suzuki method combined with some contemporary and fun improvisation. I teach theory, but also how to communicate with musicians in general. I have been teaching for more than 30 years, mostly in the public schools as well as privately. I have instructed large groups and ensembles, as well as smaller musical groups in and out of the public schools. Performing in various Jazz groups throughout the state has enhanced my teaching knowledge in the field of music education. For more advanced students, I use technique books and etudes by Hanon, Czerny, Pischna, and Chopin. I don't use a cookie cutter approach, but match the book to the student. It is important for me to expose the student, no matter the age, to not only written material, but chordal structure and basic harmony. Knowing the basic chords is important for understanding where music comes from, and even how to compose simple compositions. Read More

I strive to make my lessons fun! Learning to do something you love should be fun. I enjoy teaching students especially when they have a strong passion for what they are doing. I encourage them to practice daily, if nothing else. I always say, even if it's only 10 minutes a day, that's better than 30 minutes only one day of the week!
