From there on to the Hartt School and ever since, with a private studio in my home for 20 years and instructing and designing string programs in the Greater Hartford Area including the Hatford Public School System and Hartford Conservatory also within the East Hartford and Glastonbury school systems. I am a professional violinist with many years of experience in performing, and teaching in all areas of music. I earned my Bachelors of Music from the University of Akron and earned experience there as a Violin Teaching Assistant and Theory and History Tutor, and am currently working towards my Masters in Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy at The Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford. With beginner students, regardless of age, I start with the Suzuki pre-twinkle exercises to build a solid foundation of technique, as well as starting ear training exercises and note reading practice. Once a student has mastered the pre-twinkle fundamentals, I move to the first two Suzuki books, and supplement with etudes tailored to the student's level and musical interests. My philosophy is that learning should be organic and enjoyable, so I do my best to introduce repetitive and uninteresting exercises only when necessary, and to make them as entertaining as possible when I do so. Through my studio, I have taught voice, beginner violin and viola, music ensembles, music management, production, music publishing and audio engineering. I have also worked as a live sound technician for several CT venues. I currently perform in the ensemble, Ulterior Motif in the styles of neoclassical, gypsy jazz, contemporary and world music. The student's individual personality guides me in the way I conduct each teaching session. For all of my students, I let them pick a song (vocal) or piece (violin) that they would like to sing or play. This way I can analyze what level they are on. For my voice students, I start with vocal warm-up exercises of the different vowels. It helps me to understand their range as well as tone of voice. For my violin students, I usually stick with the Suzuki Method, or Essential Elements books, if they are in the more beginning stages. Read More
