For beginning students who are children, I typically start with violin method book, Essential Elements for Strings to learn the good basics and reading the notes and where to find those notes they just learned on the fingerboard. I also introduce the Suzuki Violin School volume 1 to learn the major songs written for the violin and simply to play more songs than the scales and exercises. For students who are more advanced, I help them their school orchestra music and make sure they are doing very well on top of the class in addition to continuing with the private lesson music. My goal for each and every student is for them to become proficient enough on their instrument that they can enjoy it for the rest of their lives. This can be achieved through lessons and regular practice. Those who practice regularly tend to be more successful and progress at a faster rate. I encourage older school age students to participate in school orchestra and those who are excelling in their instruments to audition for local youth orchestras. Read More

I like to find out why my students are interested in playing music. This helps me to create a lesson plan for each individual one. I like to start out teaching using Alfred's beginner books, and progress from there. Each student learns at a different pace, so I base my lessons off of their progress. I have found that doing this helps keep the student motivated and encouraged in the process of learning their given instrument. Read More
