Beginning violin is important. I use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements to help teach the functionality and basic building blocks of playing the violin. Moving forward, the best introduction into violin music itself is the Suzuki Violin School volume set. Each book helps students through various levels during their beginner phase. These pieces not only serve as educational material but also as solo repertoire for beginners in recitals. For beginning students who are children, I start with Essential Method Book for Strings. Once the students has progressed more, I use Suzuki Method books, and also, choose (introduce) solo pieces for recital performance. For adults, I find out what the student is interested in and find the book that fits their interest (and guide my instruction accordingly to engage them). I take the great things about the Suzuki Method and use them (fun, creativity, by-ear learning, group jams). Then I take the things I don't like about the method and disregard them (pre-established repetoire, no composition or improv). I teach kids how to concentrate, how to teach themselves, how to ignore distractions, and the philosophy for joyful performance without nervousness. I have had a passion since I was 6 years old for music, I recieved B.S in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from Central Michigan University and an Associates in Dance from University of Michigan. During which times I also performed with Flint Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Lansing Symphony Orchestra, Eastern Michigan Symphony, and the Symphony Orchestra of Leon.
