I began teaching during high school. My Conductor asked me to teach some beginning students in order to help them out with their playing, and my teaching has evolved from there. I have taught orchestral strings for over 20 years now, and still continue to play professionally myself. Each student has their own personality and way of learning, so I try to make sure from the very beginning that I get to know my students. Read More

As a teacher, I am invested in the success of each of my students. I work with them to assess their unique strengths and weaknesses, and I build a lesson plan to help them achieve their individual goals. I believe that studying music should be both fun and rewarding, so I strive to encourage and motivate my students in each lesson. While I know that not every student will become a professional violinist, I hope my lessons will inspire a lifelong appreciation of music that will enrich my students for the rest of their lives. As a young musician, I received an opportunity to perform with my former orchestra teacher Ken Lattimore, who is now a member of country and western group Sons of the Pioneers. In my musical career, Mr. Jackson has performed with the Marshall Symphony, Orchestra of the Pines, the SFA Chamber Orchestra and the Mu Xi Chapter Men’s Chorus of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. At KIPP Houston Public Schools, my students have been featured performers at the Muscular Dystrophy Association Annual Muscle Walk, Downtown Houston’s House of Blues, the 2014 KIPP Gala, and with Mark Wood (co-founder of world famous Trans-Siberian Orchestra) in a combined Electrify Your Strings concert including KIPP Sharp Orchestra, KIPP Sharpstown Orchestra and Choir, and YES Prep Orchestra. I has been immersed in the wonderful world of music since 2009. I started my studies at the Conservatorium of Music of Carabobo, where I learned about music theory, harmony and history of music. There I began to fall in love with sounds, especially the sounds of bowed string instruments and started to learn Viola and Violin. Thus developing different kind of musical works, both classical and cultural, I had the opportunity to perform and be part of several Symphonic Orchestras and groups to play different types of repertoire and musical genre. My teaching began simply by teaching fellow classmates in my school years but at the end of high school i quickly began to branch out to other students. By 19 i had about 20 students from the age of 5 all the way to age 45, from beginner to advanced levels. My Goal is to create a fun, and safe lesson environment where my students feel motivated to cultivate and grow their love and understanding of music, theory, technique, and performance skills. I usually begin with the Suzuki method for both children and adults, and once the student has a good command of fundamental violin technique, we progress in the style of the student's primary interest. I am very open to teaching a variety of styles, and can put together a detailed lesson plan for any direction the student may choose. In the event that the student is primarily focused on areas other than the classical repertoire, I definitely begin with Mark O'Connor's violin method that is specifically designed for students interested in traditional folk and fiddle music. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with the lesson books you or I provide, preferably Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More
