Daryl began playing flute at the age of 11, as part of a middle school band class. His band instructor noticed his innate talent, and began to prepare him for studies at the Music Advancement Program at the Juilliard School. During this two year program, Daryl studied flute with Jayn Rosenfeld, played in chamber ensembles and orchestra, while also studying music history, music theory, and ear training. Daryl also made his concerto debut playing Vivaldi's "Il Gardellino" in the final year of the program. Daryl's time at MAP, prepared him for entry to the prestigious high school Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for Music and Art and the Performing Arts, where he was a flute instrumental music major. He continued to study with Jayn Rosenfeld during his freshmen year, while he played as principal flute player in the Bronx Burowide Band/Orchestra. He also was the Piccolo Soloist for Sousa's March "Stars and Stripes Forever". For the remainder of high school, he studied in the Honors Program at the Mannes College of Music Prepartory Division with Sue Ann Kahn. Daryl graduated high school serving one year as Piccolo Player in the Senior Symphonic Orchestra, and one year as Principal Flute Player of the Senior Symphoniy Orchestra, Senior Symphonic Band, and the Pit Orchestras of Ragtime and City of Angels. Daryl graduated from Mannes as the Philharmonic Piccolo Player. Daryl continued his music studies at Vassar College, where he studied with John Solum. Daryl continued his chamber music and orchestra playing, and won the Music Department's Concerto Competition in 2010, playing Borne's "Carmen Fantasy." He was also chosen as a student soloist with Vassar's Modern Music Ensemble playing Ginastera's "Impresiones de la Puna." Daryl is currently taking one year off to prepare for graduate programs in flute performance.
Javi is a young, aspiring artist and visionary. Originally hailing from Minneapolis, MN, he grew up surrounded by strong artistic support. Not only was he influenced by his parents, who were jazz musicians, but also he was influenced by his own generation. His music is an eclectic blend of genres including jazz, hip hop, rock, R&B and others. Javi started playing piano at the age of 5, and was classically trained until he discovered his love of jazz music. In high school, he was a prominent player on the Twin Cities music scene and started his production career making tracks for Twin Cities hip hop artists. He won the Schubert Club Jazz Piano Scholarship Competition two years in a row (’06, ’07). He took the piano chair in the Minnesota Youth Jazz Band (’05-’07) and the Dakota Combo (’07 with Bobby Watson). In 2007, Javier was selected by the great Dave Brubeck and a panel of judges, in an international search, to be a part of the Brubeck Institute Fellowship program in California. Since then he has played at venues all across the nation and studied with some of the best instrumentalists in the world. The Brubeck Institute Jazz Quintet (’08-’09) won Best College Group Of the Year in DownBeat Magazine two years in a row (2009 and 2010). Javi received his bachelor’s degree in piano performance in late 2011 at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in NYC. Not only is Javi a virtuosic pianist, but also a producer, composer, arranger and educator as well.
I have a BM in Music Ed. I would describe myself as outgoing. I’m a K-8 Music Teacher working for the NYC DOE, and privately tutor students. I have NYS certifications in Music B-12 and Students with Disabilities 1-6. Currently, I am working toward my MA at Hofstra finishing my last class and beginning my thesis.
I come from a deep musical heritage and chose the trombone as my main instrument for spiritual reasons. While attending Los Angeles County High School for The Arts, I studied with jazz and trombone legends. Since moving to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music, I've been studying with masters from many different disciplines. I currently live in NYC where i am studying percussion, tap dancing and yoga. My home functions perfectly as a 24 hour teaching studio.
I am motivated teaher with 40 years of teaching experience in instrumental music as well as church choirs and concerts. I studied with the best pro. tuba players in NY in college from the Metropolitan Opera and American Symphony. I have performed in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Rose Parade, and on live radio WQXR in New York. I currently am the low brass teacher at a local Community College (2002-present) and the tuba instructor at another College (2011-present). I have played the trumpet and tuba for over 50 years.

It is never too late to play an instrument. We have many adult students playing trumpet. Our teachers can work with you whether you are a beginner or advanced player. Many of our adult students notice significant progress in just a short time! It is important to practice every day between your lessons to notice the most progress.
The teachers in our network create a customized lesson plan for every student. Topics covered during Musika's trumpet lessons may include, but are not limited to: correct embouchure formation, how to shape your lips and buzz, proper breathing and posture, how to develop a solid tone, how to hold, assemble, and clean the instrument properly, how to read music, and most importantly, how to have fun playing the trumpet!
In home trumpet lessons offer a convenient option for learning to play the instrument for most students. The lessons will be structured the same way as in-studio lessons and usually take place once a week. However the goals and abilities of students differ, and as such the teachers in our network can work with the student in determining frequency of lessons.
Our recommended starting age for the trumpet is 8 or 9. The instrument requires a good amount of lung capacity as well as physical strength in the muscles around the mouth. While a younger student could possibly be physically able to play the instrument, this is somewhat rare.
There are different types of trumpets usually categorized as student, intermediate, and professional models. Most of the time, student trumpets are appropriate for beginning players. The pieces included in a trumpet are the rim, the cup, the mouthpiece, the shank, the lead pipe, the valve, and the valve casings. When purchasing a trumpet, it is important to visit a music store or speak with a trumpet expert to make sure you get the best value and the highest quality instrument for your budget. A large majority of students may choose to rent their instrument before purchasing. If you decide to go this route, you will need to purchase your own mouthpiece to use with the trumpet.

I've always said, "It's all about the teacher." That skillful, effective teacher who can reach that child and ignite her passion, is truly a gift. Ric does that for my daughter. As a former music teacher myself, the most challenging thing in working with children is how to build their fundamental musical skills while letting them have fun and be expressive. The teacher must create a safe, supportive environment, and Ric does that. Ric immediately focuses on fundamentals of tone and technique, giving my daughter succinct instruction on how to improve, thus she can sense the improvement immediately. Ric seems extremely easy going; even when lighting a fire under her sometimes under-achieving butt, Ric never criticizes, judges or blames. He works with my child, understanding her, helping her problem solve, and even giving her the quick answer sometimes so she can move quickly and stay motivated. Ric balances fundamentals with fun and expressiveness, so my child feels as though she can 'play' and they truly make music in every lesson. I am thankful we found a good match with Ric.

Rahsaan is an extremely talented player who relates really well with my teenagers. He has them both interested in learning. Given Rahsaan's expertise, it's clear that even though they are beginners now, they can learn from him for a long time to come. He's a real nice laid-back guy and both the boys really enjoy their time with him. I've been very impressed and pleased with the experience.

Ed is THE best instructor I've ever had and I've had many instructors over the years in various fields of study. Ed met us at a music store to help choose a guitar, this is after he first called and asked all the right questions. He's supplied my daughter with just the right amount of paper work and just the right amount of new techniques. By this I mean to say that Ed connects with the pace my daughter learns at. I highly recommend Ed AND Musika.

Ted S. is teaching clarinet to one of my children, and piano to two others. He is extremely knowledgeable, and very encouraging. His teaching methods are keeping my children enthused about their lessons, and without that, you have nothing. Two of my children were taking piano lesson from another teacher for the past year, and not progressing. Ted has been able to evaluate their skills individually, determine what was missing in their music education, and begin again with some early basics they seem to have missed. I am convinced we are finally moving forward, and am very happy about that. I wish I would have made this change much earlier.

Mrs. Regnarene is an awesome teacher!!! She found musical aids that appealed to my 5 year old daughter and used them to help teach her piano. She has a lot of patience and I could tell she puts in the work before class to have a lesson ready for my daughter. She is always punctual, friendly and respectful. Kevin is very friendly and professional trombone teacher. During the first session he assessed my 12 year old son's strengths and identified areas for development. He has helped him refine his technique which helps our son in band class but also has him working on duets that help him grow in new ways. He comes to our home and is always very punctual. My 4-year-old has had several lessons with Martina now, and he has learned a lot. Obviously, it is challenging to teach such a young child, and he has learned quite a lot in a short time, and is very excited to learn about violin and for his lessons. I think Martina is doing an excellent job, is quite patient, and is teaching him in such a way that he can really remember his new skills from week to week. We look forward to many more lessons with Ms. Martina!

Dr. Nedra C is incredible. She knows her craft in and out, it truly shows in her teaching. As well, she cares a great deal about the student, and preps plenty of material outside of the lesson for those that she teaches. I've had many different music teachers and am aware who's talented and cares, and who isn't. Dr. Nedra C is true phenomenal, and any student would be lucky to have her.
