I am an experienced trombonist and teacher with degrees from the New England Conservatory and California State University at East Bay (MA in Music anticipated Fall 2020). I have been teaching since the 1990s, and performing all over the world since the early 2000s. My primary instrument is on trombone, but have had students on tuba, euphonium, and beginning trumpet as well. I've played in symphony orchestras as well as concert bands, both amateur and professional. I've played top 40's with various rock, Latin and R&B bands, vintage dance music from the 19th and 20th centuries, and both Modern and Traditional Jazz. I understand that each student progresses at their own pace and has diffrent goals and desires. While there are certian excersises that everyone needs to work on, solos and concert pieces are what students are drawn to. I've been teaching private trumpet lessons since I was in high school. I taught beginner and intermediate elementary and middle school students in my spare time. In college I taught students of all levels, ages, and backgrounds including advanced high school and college students and adult beginners. I always my encourage my students to pick music they like to play alongside the music I assign. There is a lot of fun trumpet music in movies and pop songs and this helps encourage my students to practice consistently and gain a love for their instrument. Read More

We then set about drawing up a practice routine, specific to that student. The practice routine is a set of 3-5 exercises taken from my library music books that will each touch on an area or skill that the student needs to work on. The routine will end with a song or piece of music for the student to read and practice. The student will practice this routine daily and the following week the student and I will sit down and play through the routine together. Read More
