Now fast-forward to March 2021, I was hired by Presidio ISD to teach middle school band. From then until May 2022, I got to teach middle school band along with choir and mariachi. I also occasionally helped at the local high school. What I have learned while teaching middle school, especially with beginners, is that playing along can be helpful initially. If you would like some food for thought from your potential music mentor, I would say this for starters; if you want to strengthen your bond between you and your instrument, and wield it effectively, you have to get in the mindset first. Practice regularly, listen to other musicians that play the same instrument as you, listen to musicians that don't play the same instrument, talk with other musicians, share ideas, live in a world where you eat, sleep, breath, and love music, and be friendly and open minded. It has been my experience, both teaching and learning, that it is easier to get results from the student by showing them the tone you want them to produce or the articulation you desire ect. In 2010, I graduated from the University of Pretoria in South Africa with a Bachelor of Music degree in Trumpet Performance, Jazz. I have performed in South Africa and Mozambique from 2005-2012 with jazz performance ranging from small venues to larger venues with Heads of State.
