Being able to teach at such a young age not only encouraged personal growth on my instrument but inspired my love for teaching and sharing a joy of music. I continued teaching lessons to middle and high school students throughout my undergraduate program and added music theory and composition elements into my instrumental lessons in order to appeal to more learning styles and provide a comprehensive understanding to encourage mindfulness and success. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements book, as well a basic understanding of music. Once the student has progressed to have a nice grasp of the fundamentals of music, I usually begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. People don't realize how important daily consistency can be, even for a short span of time. As students grow and become more comfortable on the horn, I slowly start introducing more and more advanced concepts, while still giving them room to experiment on their own and discover their own interests. There are a few exercises that I will continue to enforce, but for the most part, I try to avoid pushing any student in a certain direction when it comes to repertoire because the most important thing is that they stay engaged and develop a passion for the music.
