I have played music since third grade. Soon after starting to study music it became a focal part of what I loved to do. I played and practiced a lot. Since I dedicated so much time to learning this art , I was able to start teaching during high school and find myself still teaching now. It is a wonderful experience to pass on information, skills and experience to students and see them grow and flourish. Read More

My teaching style is very analytical yet engaging! I try to establish a good relationship before pushing a student. At that point I will ask the student to play to the best of his/her ability. I teach in a style that helps children isolate problem areas, so that they can practice specific excerpts they are struggling with. I also do a lot of ear training and music theory to ensure that students are obtaining well-rounded musical skills. Read More

I'm a retired Army musician who loves working with students and I’m eager to share that great adventure that is music. I spent the first five years of my Army career with two wonderful service bands before I won an audition with the U.S. Army Old Guard Fife & Drum Corps as a bugler. During my service I continued to teach at my home studio, as well as freelancing as a trumpeter within the greater Washington DC/Baltimore area. Read More

My teaching experience began in my high school band, when I helped younger students who were just starting out. Having been the beneficiary of wonderful music lessons myself, I could easily see their importance and began to apply the techniques that had been taught to me. Most of my experience teaching is with younger students and beginners, though I have worked with intermediate-level students as well. I enjoy helping students transition from awkward beginnings into true musicians. Read More

My methods are different for every student, but I always start with fundamentals. This includes scales, exercises to improve sound and intonation, reading, writing, improvisation, and most importantly listening. Depending on the path the student choses, some areas will be focused on more than others. I will often introduce more advanced concepts early if the student displays interest in them. I am not the kind of instructor who will say "play your etudes first and then we can talk about improvisation." I almost quit shortly after I started music because I had an instructor with that outlook. Read More
