During the first lesson, I get to know the student, find out their interests and determine which course will be the best start. The most important thing for all students is to keep the lessons engaging and fun. Piano: For younger beginning students, I typically start with the Alfred Basic Piano Library. Older beginners start with Alfred's All In One Piano Course. For adults, I find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly. Read More

With beginning students, I tend to focus on the fundamentals for the instrument, and music. An adequate grasp of the fundamentals, along with consistent practice and rehearsal times, lead to a student expediting their abilities. At this point, I will start distributing solo repertoire/literature and duets. I always encourage my students to perform for one another and to their friends and family. Not every student learns the same way. Read More

16 years of playing the trumpet is the majority of my experience. Middle school, high school, and college were conventional means of education. However, playing outside of the classroom, watching and playing along side musicians that make a living off preforming day in and day out, that's where the richest experience comes from. I've met, played with, and watched so many talented individuals, some who have become great friends of mine. Read More

My teaching experience sates back to running trumpet sectionals (in Junior High High School) for an All Star Jazz Band in my home town. When I was 16 I started teaching younger trumpet students as well. I descovered early on that I had a passion for directing and teaching. This stayed with me, and I always have incorporated education into my directing and leadership styles as a perormer. As a Musical Director for Royal Caribbean I would regularly have to teach an hour long show to my international band in under an hour and a half.I know that learning an instrument is hard work and that motivation is key to success. For beginning students who are children, I like to start with Hal Leanard's Rubank Elementary Method Cornet/Trumpet. If a student has a grasp of the fundamentals, I work with the basic blues and scales to build a repetoire. For Adults, I like to work with jazz standards as well as H.L. Clarke's Technical Studies for Cornet and Arban's Complete Conservatory Method for Trumpet. I like to make my lessons fun and engaging. Read More
