I can teach many instruments that I have taught myself how to play well and efficiently. I play in many bands and I am always learning new styles of music. My best instruments are Piano, Bass, Drums, Ukulele, Guitar, Percussion, Harmonica, Recorder, Tin Whistle, Mandolin and also Trumpet. My secondary instruments are everything else. I can fool around on Violin, Cello, Banjo and Trombone as an amateur. I could blow into a Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet, French Horn and probably anything else I can get my hands on, but I would not feel comfortable teaching them yet because I don't have enough time in the world to learn them and figure out how to play them myself and get as good as I can on those instruments. Consistency is the most important thing that I have stressed to all of my students. Consistency in practicing is vital to training your lips, fingers, and lungs to match what you have in your mind. Aquiles Navarro is a New York-based trumpeter, composer and DJ of Panamanian heritage. He derives his sounds from folkloric music, salsa, and reggae. This eclectic music background, based on his upbringing in Panama has led him to collaborate with folkloric musicians, dancers, visual artists, actors, and poets. He studied in Panama with tenor player Carlos Garnett and trumpeter Victor “Vitin” Paz. After moving to the US, he received a Bachelor's degree in Jazz Performance at the New England Conservatory, and a Master’s degree from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami where he studied with trumpeter Brian Lynch. Early on, I'll ask most students to play a recording of one of their favorite songs, which we'll use to improvise to as well as for ear-training purposes.
