Dr. Charles has over 20 years of instrumental music experience relative to teaching, learning, and performing in various styles of ensembles. Introduced to music at the young age of 4, Dr. Charles was nurtured in musical upbringing that included exposure to many instrumental music greats as Maurice Davis (funk brothers and lead trumpet for Motown Records), Ted Davis (Midwest jazz master), Billy Hornet (Legendary trumpeteer),  and Anthony Iaanoconne (Aaron Copeland's pupil and composer).

My name is Aaron; I am a teacher and performer, based in the Metro-Detroit area. I am currently a graduate bass trombone student at the University of Michigan, studying with Dr. David Jackson. This past summer, I was chosen as one of three finalists in the International Trombone Association's Donald Yaxley Solo Bass Trombone Competition. My primary teachers include Steve Wolfinbarger and David Jackson, and I have also taken lessons and performed masterclasses with Jeremy Wilson, Massimo LaRosa, Nick Schwartz, Ken Thompkins, Evan Conroy, and Randy Hawes. Aside from performing and teaching trombone, I really enjoy repairing and tinkering with brass instruments, and love arranging music.

I love music and I love working with students of all ages.  I studied piano from the age of 4, played euphonium in school band, sang in choir, and graduated from Michigan State University with honors in 2005 with a degree in music education.  My teaching has taken me from inner-city Chicago, to Bay City, to South Lyon MI.  I am looking to spend more time teaching one-on-one, as I feel that creates the most positive experiences for student and teacher.

I have had experience teaching lessons ever since I was in college. I have developed into a highly effective teacher, motivator, and musician throughout the years and feel confident that my students will succeed when they take lessons with me.  Practice has helped me to reach the level I am at, and that is one of the main things I will stress. Yes, the musical aspects of the lesson are important, and they are addressed at every lesson, but to refine and perfect those musical aspects students must practice.  It is my hope that everyone who takes lessons will, at the least, find the talent that will bring them enjoyment for the rest of their lives.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.

Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
