I like to tailor my approach to each student and the things they find inspiring about brass instruments. I will set goals and motivate my students in a way that works for their learning style. Lessons will always be engaging, challenging and fun. All students will begin with a foundation in the essential trumpet method books including the Arban, Clarke, Schlossberg and Chichowicz. I began teaching trombone at Andys Music located in Livingston NJ in the early 2000s and later private in home instruction. I give the tools for the student to become a better player and to build confidence. If the student is participating in the schools music program I help them prepare for stage band performances or recitals. For children (beginners), I start with the foundations of trombone playing. I typically start without the instrument at first and focus on breathing, posture, and building muscle memory with slide positions. With intermediate to advanced students, I like to focus on the theory/science behind trombone playing. My pedagogy is based on the American jazz tradition and the teachings of Orff and Kodaly. I like to impart a holistic love of music in my students, without boring them with too much history or theory. However, it is my belief that theory and musical literacy will open doors to a greater level of fulfillment and understanding of music as a whole.
