I started teaching private lessons in college and continued doing so after graduation. I like teaching private lessons because students learn valuable skills and techniques that will help in every aspect of a student's life. Students learn time management, dedication, and work ethic through taking private lessons and I love watching students grow throughout the process. As a music teacher, I have ample experience with students in grades 4-12. For piano students, I prefer Alfred's methods, whether the adult or for beginners. For band and orchestra, I use Essential Elements (or whatever their school is using), and supplement with Rubank's methods. For voice, I concentrate on whatever the student is interested in, with a foundation of good technique and understanding of the voice range and how to control it, with some solfege and sight-singing mixed in. I will make sure the students can read and understand music so that when we start with harder materials it will be easier and more fun. In 2017, I graduated from Duquesne University with a Bachelor of Music in Music Technology, while also extensively studying classical and jazz saxophone. Currently, I am preparing to graduate with my Master in Music Performance with a jazz concentration from Duquesne University, and have served as graduate assistant to the jazz department during my graduate studies. Through this, I learned what is the most effective ways to get through to a person and what methods resonate best with them. I then switched to Music Education where I learned and refined many of my teaching skills. During this time I had to teach others how to play various instruments and found that when teaching creating an environment where the student is free to make mistakes and learn from them is key, after all, we learn far more from our failures than from our successes.
