My love of teaching begins years ago from being a beginner student and helping my peers understand their instruments. In high school I was a section leader in marching and concert band for two years, leading sectional rehearsals and helping students one-on-one. Many of my peers started coming to me for costructive criticism and I would help them in a private lessons setting. In college this continued as I was in the studio with other saxophonists and in methods classes with other musicians. Read More

My approach is based largely on the intentions of the student. Beginner students will need a foundation to build on, that foundation will include singing, reading music, clapping rhythms, learning melodies, and free exploration for a fearless musical future. Older experienced students will be exposed to a More in depth view of the fundamental components of music, a particular group twelve crucial aspects that must work effortlessly in concert to create an impressionable musical experience. There I had the privilege of working with such educators as Dr. Margaret Berg, Dr. David Rickels, and Professor Tom Myer. As well, I received my Suzuki certification in flute from Dr. Read More

I like to understand a student on a musical level, thus letting their ability level and their drive push me in the direction most useful for the student's success. I encourage them by setting specified goals and show them how to attain them while guiding them through any necessary musical concepts they may meet along the way. I gain from my students' accomplishments a sense of pride, which makes me work just as hard for my students as they do for me. Read More

I always explore different methods that might fit the age and personality of the student but for keyboard lessons I have found success with the Alfred Piano Method. Instrumental lessons usually follow the method book that is selected by their school band director. Beyond that I have a large library of supplementary music to expand the students interest with new styles and composers.I'm very flexible with the method books and after I get to know the student I can select a method that would work the best for instruction.
