For beginner students young and old I start out with Rubank Elementary Method for saxophone. This book provided a solid foundation in basic theory and reading that lead to musical literacy. From there I go towards the basics of improvisation in the blues while continuing with technique books on the side. Once this foundation is in place I begin to encourage the student to explore music they're passionate about and start with the basics of solo transcription and more advanced improvisation. Read More

Navarro is a part of the liberation-oriented free jazz collective, Irreversible Entanglements. After their highly acclaimed self-titled debut album on International Anthem, a second album is due to be released in 2020. Navarro also has a duo project with Brooklyn-based drummer Tcheser Holmes. From there, everything else falls into place. There's no use spending long hours practicing techniques and exercises and scale patterns if it's not serving the purpose of helping you achieve your goals and if it's not helping you have fun playing music. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.
