Instruments: Saxophone
I guess you could say I started teaching back in sixth grade when I taught my sister how to play clarinet and saxophone soon after, and have continued to work with here on both instruments for many years. Now she is first chair in her bands as a music ed major. I formaly started teaching others when I was a junior in high school and since then have taught a wide range of students. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Clarinet Music
My methods are adaptable based on the student's previous or current instruction with private teachers or their school teachers. For all students I love to play along and model concepts for them. I involve a lot of kinesthetic movement based lessons along with visual and aural aids. I get to know the type of learner my student is and then plan my instruction to fit their learning style. I am a fan of etudes and short technical exercises as well as long tones for intermediate to advanced students. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Flute Clarinet
I base my materials depending on who my student is, what level they are at, their interests, and their goals. We will focus on building a proper foundation and every aspect of music making including posture, embouchure, breath support, articulation, phrasing, intonation, performances, and more. Every student will have lessons directly tailored toward their needs. I usually begin with a methods book such as the Rubank Elementary Methods, scales, and a solo matching ability level. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Saxophone Flute Clarinet
There are quite a few method books that I like to use with my students. To start, I like to have students use the Beginner Rubank Method Book (the blue book) and work through this to get the basics down. After this, I like to choose some supplemental solo pieces that aren't in this book to help the students grasp the concepts that they have been working on, outside of what is shown in the book. Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet Drums
One of things I that I find discouraging is when teachers stick with one method. Every student is different! As a result, my method of teaching very much depends on the student. If I have a student who is struggling with fundamentals, then we will focus on fundamentals. If I have a student who is struggling with articulations, then we will focus on articulations in lessons. My lessons are very much tailored to the wants and needs of the students. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Saxophone Recorder Euphonium French Horn Tuba
I am invested in providing music instruction to any who wish to study the art. I specialize in brass instruments, as both of my degrees were in music performance on euphonium. I have had performance experience in a wide array of ensembles from concert band, symphony orchestra, steel band, to brass choir and beyond. I am a licensed music teacher in Ohio, and have experience as a band director. I emphasize both solo and ensemble playing with my students. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone
During a lesson, I will cover comparable material with all students. This includes elements such as air support, sound production, tone, technique, etude practice, and repertoire. I will, however, tailor this material to suit the unique learning method of each student. Read More
