My first experience as a teacher came as a sophomore and junior in high school. I was involved with a program where high school students would work with elementary school band students once a week, and help them work on their band program music and develop their musicality. I found the experience to be extremely rewarding, and have maintained that interest in teaching. I spent time in college working as a music theory tutor for beginning music students, and in graduate school worked to develop and implement lesson plans for beginning clarinetists. Read More

I have made sure to transfer all of these skills to my private teaching. I am very direct with my students and act as facilitator in lesson discussions, and to try not making decisions for them. I heavily employ the "trial by fire" and "sink or swim" methods, as I've found those the most effective in my lifetime of learning new things. Upon graduating from the Univerity of Maryland, I taught elementary band and strings at 3 different public schools in Maryland. In addition, I taught privately in three locations, including a Music Arts Center, instructing beginning through advanced students, both children and adults. I relish finding ways in which students relate most to music and love that everybody is different.
