I have been teaching for over 40 years. In my studio, my focus is on repertoire, however I also cover ear training, theory and composition. I teach all styles of music with a focus on the classical repertoire. The theory, composition and ear training will often coincide with the style of music being studied. I provide 2 or 3 recitals every year where students have a chance to listen to others perform and find new music they have possibly not heard and would enjoy to learn. Read More

I set realistic goals for my students at each lesson. I like to demonstrate how to play- usually I count while the student plays, which helps with the beats. We may sing together or separate the note names or the song words. Every music phase requires different input. Students who struggle with note reading, get additional note reading and writing books. From my experience, most of my students, if not all, practice diligently and consistently because they want to! Not because they are forced to, but because they love to. Music has been part of my life from a yound age. I started playing piano when I was five. At age nine I entered St. Thomas Choir School, a boarding choir school in midtown Manhattan. At age fourteen I started studying music theory and composition with a local kappelmeister. In university I continued to study classical theory at Syracuse University and then Jazz Theory at Hampshire College. I moved to the West coast and played iin the big band jazz ensembles at San Francisco State University which is where I eventually got my degree in Music Ed. Read More
