Instruments: Piano

My teaching style is fairly methodical, as I have found some tactics to be reliable across the board. However, I also enjoy the beauty of personalized attention that comes with music lessons. I make efforts to keep an open, honest dialogue with my students regardless of age so I can hear what works and what doesn't for them. It feels so good for a teacher and a student when they reach that lightbulb moment together. Read More

Instruments: Piano Saxophone Djembe

My teaching experience dates back to the beginning of high school. Though it wasn't music education, I am very much use to private teaching. I started my education career at "Kumon of Bowie Math and Reading Center," a tutoring center created to emphasis one-on-one assistance for students in need. After working there for five years, I pursued my undergraduate education until Spring 2017. During college, I also worked as an ear training mentor. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with an intro Piano or Drum Method. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Mike began playing at age 7 on both piano and drums and started performing at age 14. Later he studied voice in college and picked up the banjo as another instrument to have in his repertoire. My teaching experience started after college, teaching a family friend bass guitar. From there I realized I could just as well teach guitar, piano, and saxophone as well. I find it rewarding to watch people grow and learn skills they can use the rest of their life, enriching their life with the expression of music. From taking private lessons of my own on saxophone and guitar throughout high school and college, I've learned that consistency of practice is key! Read More

I am a passionate music educator who has taught piano at all ages and levels. I am currently an elementary school general music educator, and have instructed music history courses on the university level. I am an active performer as well, so am able to bring authentic experience to my students that helps them to reach their maximum musical potential! I am an avid advocate for arts education, and believe that students of all ages and levels of experience benefit from exposure to the creative arts. Read More

Instruments: Piano Voice

I have been involved with music for as long as I can remember. My first love was singing, and I still enjoy singing today. My first instrument was the accordion, after which I moved on to piano and keyboards. I remember my piano teacher, Mr Scholl, was a neighbor and he would come to my house for lessons. I had no idea that years later as an adult I would be "paying it forward". Read More

Instruments: Piano

For beginners, I usually start with John Thompson's Easiest Piano Course. Then, I progress onto Dozen a Day, and finally Hanon and Czerny. For the advanced students, I start right from Hanon and Czerny, and go onto Burgmuller. If there is time, I will add on Rebikov for hand separation practice. Repertoire is often chosen based on the student's ability at the time. I will most likely start with repertoire from Easy Classics to Modern, and later add on repertoire that matches the student's style (such as jazz or R&B). Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
