I began my career teaching privately in Beverly Hills in 2004, and also worked with the Yamaha Music school (Los Angeles branch) in 2005. In addition to teaching beginners, I also trained students for city competitions and recitals. A few years later, I was able to collaborate with SOMA music school in Diamond Bar and taught piano performance to students of various abilities. In 2009, I relocated to Korea temporarily and worked for the Yamaha Music school (Seoul branch), teaching musical development for younger children as well as giving private lessons to beginner-intermediate level students. For me, reading notes is essential, because it opens up the entire musical literature. So that is what I start with. Counting is equally important, so I start with that as soon as possible. I usually work with Bastien Technique. I like the way the book is organised. In addition I give pieces for them to learn, according to their difficulty. I always plat the pieces first to make sure the student will enjoy working on the piece. Read More

I offer a truly bespoke approach to each student, because all students are different, and your lessons should be tailored and unique to you. My personal training in voice was a very one-size-fits-all approach--if I couldn't do something in a certain way that my instructors wanted, I would often disappoint them, or continue to run up against a brick wall in my progress. My approach with my own students is the opposite--I provide my students options in order to achieve something vocally or technically, rather than having only one option. Read More

My approach is highly structured. We might start with warm-ups. This can mean, for example, Hanon exercises on the piano. Or playing scales on the guitar. I like to set tempos and practice rhythm as we run scales and chords. Sometimes I use a beat box. I believe in getting the client playing. I play only to demonstrate. I can also be a side player, and play a rhythm part, if the client is playing a solo. Read More

Performance Opportunities: Performing is an integral part of becoming a musician. I provide opportunities for students to showcase their progress through recitals, workshops, and even collaborative projects. This not only boosts their confidence but also prepares them for real-world musical experiences. Custom Materials: In addition to using established teaching materials, I create custom resources tailored to the student's needs. These materials may include exercises, practice guides, sheet music, and even audio recordings. Read More

My 5 years of teaching experience, and 20+ years of performing experience has helped me gain a storehouse of helpful knowledge, wisdom and methods. Having worked with all voice types, I have learned that each voice is unique and should be treated as such. I have always allowed my students to work at their own pace, but I have also learned when it is more beneficial to help push my students. As a performer, I have been commended for my artistry. Instruments: Piano Violin
I stress the basics: scales, arpeggios and chords for piano and scales and double stops for violin. In regard to the piano, I have students practice each hand alone before combining them. Generally two pieces are assigned for students to work on and that work is continued for several weeks. I emphasize sight reading and rhythm. These are two aspects of music that are difficult for many. In regard to reading, the names and purposes of the various signs and symbols must be learned. Read More
