As such, my approach for a less serious student will be different from my approach for a more serious student. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Music for Little Mozart, Alfred Premier Piano Course, or Faber Piano Adventures. Once the student has progressed to have grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for them. For adults, I try to find out what they are interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun. I especially encourage my students to practice four to five hours per day, because it helps the students to develop techniques and strength for fingers. Read More

I began piano study at the age of 5 and began teaching privately at a young age.  I have taught piano and been staff accompanist at Chatham College in Pittsburgh, Pa. and Fairmont State University in Fairmont, W.Va.  I am a member of: Music Teachers Association of California, Music Teachers' National Association, National Guild of Piano Teachers, American Guild of Organists, AFM, Local 47.  She is a founding teacher for the Carnegie Hall Royal Conservatory:  The Achievement Program.  I adjudicate for MTAC, MTNA, NGPT, SYMF and other California festivals and competitions.  I present lecture/recitals on women composers and their music at a variety of conferences throughout the United States and had the privilege of premiering the First Piano Sonata by Nancy Van de Vate at the 2001 Amalfi Music Festival in Italy. Nothing is more rewarding to see students highly motivated playing piano on their own after receiving the first lesson. All of my students are excited after taking piano lessons every week. My goal for teaching is students are able to practice all the songs they have learned during the lesson time, master them before next lesson begins.
