For beginner students, I often begin with the foundations of the instrument. For drums, we would be practice the rhythmic subdivisions (quarter, eighth, sixteenth notes) and slowly work them into grooves that they can easily start to pick out of their favorite songs. When the fundamentals have been established, we can learn more advanced grooves, dissect songs together, and learn how to improvise and write our own drum parts. My biggest focus as a teacher is to help the student discover the music that they want to learn and make so that they can develop their own unique voice. Read More

I love to motivate and inspire my students! One thing I focus on is teaching my students how to practice efficiently and effectively. I strongly believe that anyone and everyone can enjoy playing the piano. Learning to play the piano takes discipline, but it is very rewarding! With consistent practice and lessons, students will progress in their goals and gain a skill that they can enjoy all throughout their life. Read More

I am a very detail oriented teacher. Once a student gets a new piece of music I like for them to gain a general idea of how the music goes. We then begin to do more specific work. Once the student is comfortable with the notes and rhythms, together break down each phrase to make sure the technique is consistent. Because I believe every student is different and may need to receive information in a different way than another student, I can tell a student what is happening technically or I can explain it in a way that Read More

In Russia, I was a concert pianist as well as a teacher of classic piano theory and performance. I was a soloist who performed with a full orchestra as well as being a chamber musician, accompanist for singers and for strings. Since I came to the United States, I have concentrated more on teaching. I have taught piano at many music schools and have also given private lessons, both at students' homes and at my music studio. My piano students have won multiple awards at music competitions in Russia and the United States. In 2006, a student of mine won first prize at the West Chester University Music Competition. Then in 2011, my students won prizes in the International Music Competition, the National League Competition and the Tri-County Competition. Read More

I have enjoyed teaching since 1996 as an English teacher, then branching out to music, my first love. I think the most important thing for a teacher is to understand a student's fortes and weaknesses; in order to assess the right formulaic approach to learning. I think overall most students can learn best when they are asked to repeat certain patterns in music foundations, whether it be scales or metromone based copy-cat drumming. Read More

I encourage students to pick the music they want to play. For those who have no prior music knowledge at all, there are numerous beginning methods that are satisfactory. I teach harmony and ear training at a level in agreement with ability of the fingers to execute. It is so nice to learn to play by ear, (starting with very simple tunes) going from the brain to the keyboard without the crutch of the paper score. Of course this is the objective of preparation (study, practice) anyway, so the emotional feeling that the composer intended can be experienced and interpreted (and communicated to the audience) in a wonderful, magical way. I believe every student is unique and will need to improve in different areas for different reasons. Every student will have a specific taste in music so I always to try design lessons based on the music style they enjoy most. I will also introduce new music to keep them inspired. But, in general I have found the best teaching style is to both agree on a list of songs to learn. Read More
