All curriculum is based on age, so that it will help students learn at their own pace and level. Once the student gets to a certain point, I start adding in fun pieces that the child suggest, or might like, to add to what he or she is already learning. There is a child version and an older beginner version. For students who are not beginners, I find them solo pieces that are suitable for them that they enjoy so that their playing will progress. For beginning students, I use the first Essential Element book to introduce the first instrument and theory concepts. Once students have progressed past this book, I use the Tune a Day series along with the accompanying scale book. This book introduces students to solo and duet pieces worthy of a recital performance. For piano, I use Faber instructional books for piano. I teach music theory which include but not limited to scales, rhythm, etc. I give instruction on music vocabulary and literature. Furthermore, students learn some music history which includes the different eras and composers. Also, I teach vocal pedagogy which includes but not limited to breathing and phonation.
