I continued to study classical violin until about 16, when I became highly involved in choir and theater. I was selected for the Texas All State Mixed Chorus three years in a row. I also sang professionally for St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Houston for three years. At about this time I also began teaching myself piano, and have continued my growth on the instrument to this day. I attended the University of Houston initially as a Vocal performance major with a music scholarship but had become burnt out from the rigors of professional classical music training and performance. I come up with a customized lesson plan for each of my students that will stay on the best possible path to success. Based on skill level, all lessons are geared toward progressing to a goal that the student sets while setting individual milestones. I choose a method book that is most appropriate for the student. I use two pianos minimum for my lessons, along with recordings at multiple speeds in order to minimize the rhythmic mistakes so common in private lessons. Students are taught to make the connection between what they are playing and hearing, and what others are playing and hearing. Composition and Improvisation play an important roll in this connection, which is why I make it a part of every lesson.
