For my beginning students, I typically start with either Essential Elements 2000 for strings or Sound Innovations. Both books give younger students a grasp on the fundamentals of technique. As they grow I then introduce solo repertoire by using the Suzuki Books but also like to add a fiddle book. Sometimes students gradually go either to fiddle or to classical. I try and encourage what they are more comfortable with. For adults, I try to find out what genre of music they enjoy and try to gauge their ability level with a couple playing evaluations. I started teaching in 2009 in Mississippi. I taught 6th grade band (beginner), 7th grade band, and high school. I taught in Mississippi for 5 years and just recently moved to Tennessee. While teaching, I've given private lessons to some of my students after school and to some students who did not attend my school. I always encourage doing a recital, entering competitions, and continuing on to college playing their instrument. I love motivating students and challenging them to be the best and nothing less. Practice makes permanent. It doesn't always make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect, and therefore I encourage students to always make consistent time to practice and perfect their craft. Consistent practice with good technique and attention to detail is better than hours and hours of lazy, uninspired practice. Therefore, I try to set new challenges each week that are fresh and exciting which encourage active, perfect practice. I want to make sure students are eager to learn, so I employ teaching techniques that make learning fun. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
