I want to give all my students a background in classical music to prepare them for possible further education in music and give them confidence among classically-trained musicians. I also want my curriculum to include non-classical musical styles that each particular student enjoys and relates to. I want to help students accomplish their personal goals (and their parents’ goals) regarding their musical education. Most importantly, I want my students to love playing and/or singing music! Techniques are like having more arrows in your quiver. The more techniques you have the more easily you can express yourself. Much like, the more words you know the easier and more proficiently you can communicate how you feel. (This leads you to self-expression.) Self-Expression is the ultimate goal. Music is a form of language communication, and once you can clearly convey your message and music with your instrument then you have reached a level of musicianship. Read More

Effective teaching caters to each student's unique needs and learning styles. This is why although I prefer the Music Tree series of method books, I'm also flexible and observant to determine the best possible approach on a student-by-student basis. My goal is to instill a genuine, passion for music in my students, and also to help develop well-rounded musicians. Whether you want to play Mozart, write songs, or play in a jazz band, I want to give you the tools you need to make the most of that situation. Read More

I believe in a student learning to hear music and think for themselves. Through ear training, creativity, and learning "how" music works, the goal is to get each student to not need a teacher to learn their instrument, but want a teacher so they may become their best version of it. I focus on this as a primary value in my studio. In lessons, we'll use formulas and concepts to understand "why" things sound good, and "how" we actually get better. Read More

I work to deconstruct this notion and help to build confidence in their ability to learn and develop. Positive affirmation is how I work. I believe focusing on the strengths of a student while working to develop past what may be perceived as weaknesses is paramount to cultivating a life long relationship with music. Although I am a stickler for practicing, I do this because we are setting goals for each lesson and the only way to reach these goals is through consistent practice. Read More
